Caroline Newman Small

Caroline Newman Small is a shareholder with Davis & Santos. Caroline focuses her practice on commercial litigation, including banking litigation, IRS controversies, tax litigation, and bankruptcy.

Prior to joining Davis & Santos, Caroline was an Honors Program trial attorney in the Civil Trial Section of the Tax Division at the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. At the Justice Department, Caroline litigated affirmative and defensive civil cases in federal district courts and bankruptcy courts that presented a variety of legal issues involving federal tax law, bankruptcy law, constitutional law, commercial law, and state property law. Prior to returning to her hometown of San Antonio, Caroline also served as an adjunct professor at the George Washington University School of Law, where she taught courses in practical trial strategy and techniques.


Caroline received her J.D. with high honors from The University of Connecticut School of Law in 2006, her M.S. in Chemistry from The University of Connecticut in 2002, and her B.S. in Chemistry from Trinity College in 2001.


Caroline served as a law clerk to the Honorable Raymond W. Gruender, Circuit Court Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit for the 2006-2007 term.
