Davis & Santos is pleased to welcome its newest Associate Counsel, Elizabeth Vela. Prior to joining Davis & Santos, Elizabeth served as an intern for United States District Judge Marina Garcia Marmolejo and was a staff writer for The Scholar: St. Mary’s Law Review on Race and Social Justice. Elizabeth was a student attorney for the St. Mary’s Criminal Justice Clinic where she had the opportunity to represent individuals at the trial and appellate phase of their criminal matter, as well as work with the clinic’s Wrongful Conviction Review Project and Post-Conviction Review Project.
After her time as a student attorney, Elizabeth continued as a teaching assistant for the Criminal Justice Clinic where she helped oversee the Wrongful Conviction Review Project, Post-Conviction Review Project, and court simulations for student attorneys. Additionally, Elizabeth served as Secretary for St. Mary’s Lawtina Network’s inaugural board and enjoyed her time volunteering with various organizations, including the ID Recovery Program at Haven for Hope and Texas RioGrande Legal Aid’s LGBTQ+ Civil Rights Project.
