After following an indirect path, a persistent interest in law led Santos Vargas to a legal career in San Antonio, where he has become, as of August 1, 2018, president of the San Antonio Bar Association.

A native of Port Arthur, Texas, Santos is the son of Mexican immigrants who never had the opportunity to receive a formal education in their home country. Santos is the first person in his family to receive a college degree.
